One flat, GST-inclusive package covers the hire days, the kilometres and $6,500 damage cover. Nobody drives an empty truck back up the coast, so you don't pay for that leg.

Load up and drive. Sydney is one very long day or two easy ones, and the longer routes take two or three days. The package's days and kilometres cover the trip, and you can add more when you book.

Drop off at the other end. Return the vehicle at our depot in the destination city at your drop-off appointment. That's it.

Picking up at Caloundra Shopping Centre
Our Caloundra pickup and drop-off point is Sparkles Car Wash at Caloundra Shopping Centre, 47 Bowman Rd, Caloundra QLD 4551. It's the centre with Kmart and Coles, three minutes from Bulcock Street in the town centre. For an interstate run it's a handy start: Bowman Road becomes Caloundra Road, which runs west to the Bruce Highway (M1), about 9 km away.

Most of the southern Sunshine Coast is a short drive from Bowman Road: 8 minutes from Caloundra West and Currimundi, 12 from Aura and 13 from Kawana Waters. Buderim is 22 minutes away, Maroochydore 32 and Noosa just under the hour. The pickup guide lists the drive from 19 areas, Caboolture and Bribie Island included.
Which way out of Caloundra?
Caloundra to Sydney (988 km)
About ten hours non-stop. Caloundra Road takes you out to the Bruce Highway (M1). Follow the M1 south around Brisbane on the Gateway Motorway, a toll road, and past the Gold Coast into New South Wales. The Pacific Highway then runs down the coast, and the M1 Pacific Motorway takes over near Newcastle for the last stretch into Sydney. Coffs Harbour, 476 km from the pickup, is close to halfway. Caloundra to Canberra (1,278 km)
About thirteen hours of driving, and the quickest way is by the coast: the Pacific Highway to Sydney, the toll motorways around the west of the city, then the Hume south and the Federal Highway into Canberra. Caloundra to Melbourne (1,838 km)
About eighteen and a half hours by the coast, through Sydney and down the Hume. The inland way is 100 km shorter and close to an hour slower: the Warrego Highway to Toowoomba, the Gore to Goondiwindi, then the Newell Highway through Moree, Dubbo and West Wyalong. Caloundra to Adelaide (2,123 km)
Roughly twenty-three and a half hours of driving, inland on sealed highways: the Warrego to Toowoomba, the Gore to Goondiwindi, the Newell to West Wyalong, then the Mid Western Highway to Hay and the Sturt Highway through Mildura into South Australia. Allow three days, with Narrabri and Hay as the overnight stops. Map apps sometimes suggest a shorter line on outback back roads. When can you pick up in Caloundra?
Pickups and drop-offs at Bowman Road are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, from 8:30 AM to the last appointment at 4:45 PM. We're closed on Sundays, on Queensland public holidays (Labour Day on the first Monday in May and the King's Birthday on the first Monday in October among them) and over the Christmas and New Year break. The booking calendar only offers days we're open, so a closed day can't be booked by mistake.
Mind the clocks, too. Queensland doesn't use daylight saving, so from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne are an hour ahead of Caloundra, and Adelaide half an hour ahead. Every appointment is in local time where it happens, so a drop-off in Sydney is booked in Sydney time.
Moving to the Sunshine Coast?
The Caloundra routes run the other way too. Pick up from our Melbourne (Epping), Sydney (Castle Hill), Adelaide (Green Fields) or Canberra (Majura Park Shopping Centre) location and drop the vehicle at Bowman Road. Your drop-off appointment is set inside your hire days, on a day we're open, and most of the southern Sunshine Coast is under a quarter of an hour away, so you can unload first and return the empty truck after.
