One-Way Truck & Van Hire in Canberra
Collect a car-licence truck or van at Majura Park, drive it one way to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide, and hand the keys back there. Moving to Canberra instead? The same routes run in reverse.
How does one-way truck hire from Canberra work?
You pick up a car-licence truck or van at our Canberra pickup point at Majura Park Shopping Centre, drive it to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide, and return it at our depot in that city. One flat, GST-inclusive package covers the hire days, the kilometres and $6,500 damage cover. Nobody drives an empty truck back, so you don't pay for that leg.

Picking up at Majura Park
Our Canberra pickup and drop-off point is Majura Park Shopping Centre, 18-26 Spitfire Ave, Majura Park ACT 2609. It sits on the western edge of the Canberra Airport precinct, reached from Majura Road and across the road from IKEA. For a Sydney run that position is handy: the Majura Parkway heads north from the precinct to the Federal Highway, so you're out of town without driving through the city.
Read the Majura Park pickup guide for directions, opening hours and what to bring on the day.
Most of Canberra is under half an hour from Majura Park: 12 minutes from Civic, 17 from Gungahlin, 23 from Belconnen and 26 from Tuggeranong, and 16 from Queanbeyan. The pickup guide lists the drive from every district and from Jerrabomberra, Googong, Bungendore, Murrumbateman and Yass.
Which way out of Canberra?
Canberra to Sydney (286 km)
About three hours non-stop. Take the Federal Highway north to the Hume near Goulburn, then follow the Hume Motorway into Sydney. It's the one Canberra route you can drive in a morning and still unload the same day. Canberra to Sydney one-way hire
Canberra to Melbourne (662 km)
Around seven hours of driving. Head north-west on the Barton Highway to Yass, then pick up the Hume south for the rest of the way. Start early: a loaded truck is slower than your car, and you'll want daylight for the unload at the other end. Canberra to Melbourne one-way hire
Canberra to Adelaide (1,161 km)
Roughly twelve and a half hours behind the wheel. The usual way is the Hume to near Gundagai, then the Sturt Highway west through Wagga Wagga and Mildura. Split it over two days and book the overnight stop before you leave. Canberra to Adelaide one-way hire
Canberra to Brisbane (1,203 km)
About thirteen hours of driving, so plan two days. Canberra to Brisbane one-way hire
When can you pick up in Canberra?
Pickups and drop-offs at Majura Park are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, from 8:30 AM to the last appointment at 4:45 PM. We're closed on Sundays, on ACT public holidays (Canberra Day in March and Reconciliation Day in late May among them) and over the Christmas and New Year break. The booking calendar only offers days we're open, so a closed day can't be booked by mistake.
If your lease ends on a Sunday, collect on the Saturday. A spare day in the hire costs far less than a weekend with nowhere to sleep.
Moving to Canberra?
Every Canberra route runs the other way too. Pick up from our Melbourne (Epping), Sydney (Castle Hill), Brisbane (Archerfield) or Adelaide (Green Fields) location and drop the vehicle at Majura Park. Your drop-off appointment is set inside your hire days, on a day we're open.
Truck or van?
A van suits a studio or a one-bedroom flat. A whole house needs the truck, and the moving trucks seat up to three, so the household can travel with the load. Both drive on a car licence. How to choose between a truck and a van
